project managerA project manager is a specialist who organizes key components of a project in order to deliver results on time for a new product or service, such as a course launch.

To be more specific, project management is actually the discipline of initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing the work of a team. Here’s a rundown of every aspect of project management and execution:

  1. Initiating: An idea for a project will be carefully examined to determine whether or not it is of benefit. If it’s worth it, the end result will be improved team efficiency, improved processes, and easier collaboration across all channels at every stage of the project.
  2. Planning: The planning phase involves creating a written plan/timeline, establishing project milestones, assigning team members, creating a budget, and allocating resources (software, etc.).
  3. Executing: Team members are informed of their responsibilities, and a reporting system is established so project leads can report on progress and milestones as they compare to the original plan. Adjustments may be necessary at this stage. Delays caused by unforeseen circumstances can affect the final deadline. Flexibility is key at this stage.
  4. Controlling: Managers will compare project status and progress to the actual plan.
  5. Closing: At this stage, the project has come to a close. Team members and the project manager establish a feedback loop to determine procedures and processes than can be improved for the next project.
